Yes, completely. Our on-site quotes are free and carry no obligation. We visit your property, take measurements, assess the condition of the surfaces, and provide a fully itemised written quote at no cost to you.

How quickly can you start?

Accepted Answer

Lead times vary depending on the season and our current workload. In quieter periods we can sometimes start within a week or two; during peak season (spring and summer) it may be 3–6 weeks. We'll always give you an honest start-date estimate when we provide your quote.

Do you provide quotes for both interior and exterior work in one visit?

Absolutely. If you need both interior and exterior painting, we'll assess everything in a single visit and provide a combined quote. Many clients find it more cost-effective to bundle their interior and exterior work together.

Question 5

Do I need to move furniture before the painters arrive?

Accepted Answer

For interior jobs, we ask that you move small personal items, breakables, and valuables out of the rooms being painted. Heavy furniture (beds, sofas, dining tables) can usually stay — we'll move it away from the walls and cover it with drop sheets. We'll let you know exactly what's needed when we confirm your booking.

Do I need to be home during the job?

Not necessarily. Many clients give us a key or a code for the duration of the project. You'll need to be present at the start of the first day so we can walk through and confirm the scope, and we'll do a final walk-through with you at completion. In between, you're welcome to go about your day.

Will you protect my floors, garden, and furniture?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We use drop sheets throughout, tape off fixtures, and take care to protect lawns, gardens, and garden beds around the home. Any surfaces not being painted are masked or covered before we start. We also clean the site at the end of every day and after the job is complete.

Do I need to do anything to the walls before you arrive?

Accepted Answer

No preparation is needed on your part. Surface preparation — washing, sanding, filling holes and cracks, and priming — is part of our service and is included in your quote. We'll do everything needed to ensure the paint adheres correctly and lasts.

How long does a typical job take?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the scope. A standard 3-bedroom interior typically takes 3–5 days. A full exterior repaint of a single-storey home usually takes 4–7 days. Larger or more complex jobs — multi-storey homes, extensive timber prep, or combined interior and exterior — can take 2–3 weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeframe in your quote.

Do you paint in wet weather?

We don't apply exterior paint in rain or high humidity, as moisture affects adhesion and finish quality. We monitor forecasts closely and plan around the weather. If a rain day interrupts an exterior job, we'll reschedule those affected days at no extra cost to you. Interior work can generally proceed regardless of weather.

What brands of paint do you use?

We select premium paints suited to Queensland's climate, matched to each project and surface, and we work extensively with Dulux and Solver. As a Dulux Accredited painting business we have access to the full professional range and can match virtually any colour. The right product, properly applied, is what gives you a finish that lasts.

How many coats will you apply?

Most jobs require two coats for full coverage and durability — one coat of primer (where needed) and two topcoats. Some surfaces in poor condition or switching to a dramatically different colour may need additional coats. This will be specified in your quote so there are no surprises.

Can I choose my own colours?

Of course. You can bring your own colour selections or Dulux colour codes, and we'll match them exactly. If you'd like help choosing, we can arrange a colour consultation — we contact the consultant, they contact you, and you work the colours through with them directly. Let us know when booking.

What warranty do you provide?

We stand behind our workmanship with a written 5-year warranty on residential painting. The warranty covers peeling, flaking and blistering arising from faulty preparation or application. It is not transferable and requires written notice within 14 days. This is separate from the manufacturer's warranty on the paint products themselves.

What if I'm not happy with the result?

Caleb, our operations manager, walks through the finished job with you. If you spot anything that doesn't meet your expectations, tell us then and we'll address it before we pack up. If something comes up after we leave, call us and ask for Caleb.

How do I care for my new paintwork?

Accepted Answer

For the first 2–4 weeks, avoid washing painted surfaces if possible — the paint is still curing and can be marked easily. After that, most interior surfaces can be gently cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners. For exterior surfaces, an annual hose-down is generally sufficient to keep them looking fresh.

Why do painting quotes vary so much between companies?

The biggest differences come down to surface preparation, paint quality and experience. Preparation is the least visible part of the job and the part that decides how long the finish lasts, so it is where the cost differences usually sit. Our quotes are itemised so you can see what preparation is included, which product is being used, and what you are actually comparing.

The three main factors are: (1) the condition of your surfaces — the more prep required (sanding, filling, stripping), the more time and materials involved; (2) the type and style of your home — a Queenslander with ornate timber features costs more to paint than a modern brick home of the same floor area; and (3) accessibility — multi-storey homes or properties with tight side access may need scaffolding. Do you offer payment options?

We typically require a deposit to secure your booking, with the balance due on completion. We accept bank transfer and most major payment methods. If you'd like to discuss flexible payment arrangements, mention this when requesting your quote and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Are there any hidden costs I should know about?

Our quotes set out the labour, materials, surface preparation, site protection and clean-up included for the agreed scope. If scaffolding is required, it will appear as a line item in your quote so you know upfront. If we discover something unexpected during the job (like significant rot or lead paint), we'll discuss it with you before proceeding.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. S2F Painting holds QBCC Licence 15037538, required for professional painting work in Queensland, and carries $20 million public liability insurance.

Do you handle lead paint?

Accepted Answer

Homes built before 1970 often contain lead-based paint, which becomes a risk when it is disturbed by sanding, scraping or heat stripping rather than when it is left intact. If lead paint is suspected we will identify it during our quoting visit and factor the safe handling into your quote.

Question 23

What about asbestos? Can you paint over it?

Accepted Answer

Painting over intact, non-friable asbestos-containing materials (such as fibrous cement sheeting) is permitted in Queensland, provided the surface is not sanded or disturbed. We will not sand, cut, or drill into any material we suspect may contain asbestos. If asbestos remediation is required, we'll refer you to a licensed asbestos removalist before we proceed with painting.
